The summer of 2005 marked another change for the District. We changed over to an AMR system.
What is AMR? AMR stands for Automatic Meter Reading. Many utilities are using AMR as a way of improving customer service while reducing the cost of meter maintenance and meter reading.
Willows Water District has chosen the Orion AMR system. The system works through radio frequency. There will be a radio transmitter attached to the water meter that will transmit the meter reading to a receiver. We will be able to collect the readings from a moving vehicle or from a handheld radio receiver. With this process, one driver in a truck will be able to read the District in a day and a half, instead of two weeks and five-meter readers – a big cost savings! There will not be nearly as many problems related to weather or meter inaccessibility.
